Sony to add 120Hz HDR compatibility to PS5 with Samsung TVs in March
PlayStation 5 owners have reported compatibility issues with Samsung TVs (for example, the pre-2020 QLED Q80T 2020), but neither Sony nor Samsung have revealed which side of the problem is on until the moderator of the European forum Samsung did so.
In a post in German, an employee said that if the TV refuses to play the PS5 image in 4K mode at 120 Hz with HDR, then everything is fine with it and there is no need to take it in for repair. Compatibility issues are related to the features of the console firmware, which are already being worked on at Sony. According to Samsung, the fix will be included in the next PS5 update, which is scheduled for March. Previously, it was reported that the PS5’s HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is lower than the Xbox Series X, which is why digital color downsampling is applied to the output signal in 120Hz HDR mode. At the same time, the PS5’s compatibility with home theater A / V receivers is higher than that of the Microsoft console, and at the hardware level.
